Custom Activity in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011

One of the things I always felt was missing from Dynamics CRM 4.0 was the ability to create new Activity types.

The standard Phone call, Task, Appointment etc were ok, but I would often get clients asking for activities that were specific to their business.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 addresses this. You now have the ability to create custom activities easily.

To create a new Activity type you go through the same process of creating a custom entity but you’ll notice the option to make this new entity an Activity type:

Once you create a new entity as an activity type and save it, all the standard ‘Activity’ type relationships and fields are also created so without creating anything else the form will look like this:

Peledie_MSCRM2011b

Just add all the other fields you need for your custom activity, publish and next time you create an activity:

Peledie_MSCRM2011c

Peledie_MSCRM2011d

This is just a very brief overview but II think this a major improvement, and I’m sure it will be greatly received.
